John H Yee Scholarship Fund

Scholarship Fund Mission

The John H. Yee Scholarship Fund’s mission is to provide financial aid to help Denver Metro area students of all ages to realize educational and cultural travel to our Sister City of Kunming, China. By promoting a deeper understanding of, and an interest in, the Chinese language, history, and culture, the Denver-Kunming Committee hopes to encourage and build long-term relationships between Denver and Kunming through these people-to-people exchanges.

About John H. Yee

The John H. Yee Scholarship Fund was established in 2019 to honor and carry on the traditions established by a lifelong educator who helped found Kunming, China as Denver’s Sister City in 1985.  For over two decades John Yee served as Committee Chair and later active Honorary Chair and led numerous educational trips to Kunming and China.  A translator for the venerated Flying Tigers during WWII in Kunming, chance brought John Yee to Denver where he became an educator, professor, and community leader.  After his passing in 2019 at the age of 97, the Kunming Committee created a new scholarship fund to honor his memory and life’s work.

Donating to the Fund

Although travel between our cities is not yet possible, the Committee is grateful for any donations that can help us be ready to support student educational travel as soon as safely possible.  To donate, click HERE
