The Eagle Huntress, Director Otto Bell. This documentary follows Aishoplan Nurgaiv, a 13-year old Kazakh girl, as she trains with her father to hunt on horseback with a golden eagle. “I started to train when I was 10 years old, going to the mountains with my dad . . . . I wanted to be an eagle huntress.” Aware that some men thought girls were not strong enough to hold an eagle, their skepticism fueled her power to succeed. Aishoplan set her sights on the prestigious eagle hunters’ competition held annually in Ulgii in northwestern Mongolia, because as she tells us, “girls can do anything if they try.” In Kazakh with English subtitles. (Sony Pictures Classics, 2016, 88 min.).

A presentation from the Mongolian Culture & Heritage Center of Colorado will follow the film screening.
