If you haven’t yet visited the Denver Art Museum’s remodeled Martin Building (formerly the North Building), the Denver Kunming Sister Cities Committee has arranged for a private docent-led tour of the beautiful Asian Art floor and collection. We hope you can join us on July 19, 2022, at 4:00pm.
Limited to just 40 participants (10 people per docent), this very special event is a private tour of Denver Art Museum’s remodeled Martin Building (formerly the North Building) and the beautiful Asian Art floor and collection.
This collection, established in 1915, has since grown to be one of the finest of its kind in North America. With more than 7,000 artworks representing 6,000 years of history across the entire Asian continent, the collection is particularly strong in artwork from Japan, Korea, China, India, and the Islamic world.
Its holdings include objects of almost all media, with a strength in ceramics and sculptures. It is also home to more than one thousand bamboo works from China, Korea and Japan, and is one of the largest Asian bamboo art collections in the United States. A recent gift of Japanese paintings and ceramics also has made the Asian art department particularly strong in representing Japanese women artists from the 1600s to the early 1900s, and is probably the largest collection of its kind outside Japan. The redesigned layout incorporates some exciting state of the art interactive, multi-media features.
The tour will feature highlights of the entire collection, but with an emphasis on Chinese art.
