Mayoral Delegation from Ulaanbaatar visits Denver March 5 – 10

Denver-Ulaanbaatar Sister Cities hosted a large delegation of government officials March 5 – 10 from Denver’s Sister City of Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, including Governor S.Batbold, his wife Davaajargal, and the heads of the Planning, Environmental, Investment, Transportation, and Foreign Relations. The Governor and delegates met with a variety of area entities, including:

  • Denver International Airport, as Ulaanbaatar is preparing to open a new airport
  • Honorary Consul General of Mongolia, for trip coordination and regional information
  • Denver Botanic Gardens, which has conservation programs in Mongolia
  • Denver Dragon Boat Festival, which has a 2018 theme of Mongolia
  • Denver Lions’ Club, which distributed more than 1,000 pairs of glasses in Mongolia last year
  • Colorado Ballet Academy, which, in partnership with Walt Jenkins and the Mongolian Arts Council, offers training exchanges for Mongolian ballet dancers
  • RTD, for discussions on light-rail systems and transit-oriented development
  • The University of Colorado Denver, which has 300 Mongolian alumni
  • Denver Mayor Michael B. Hancock, for Mayor-to-Mayor discussions on Sister City synergies
  • Denver Office of Sustainability, for information-sharing on this innovative department
  • National Western Complex officials, to learn about the redevelopment of the historic stock show campus and the agribusiness center and incubator through Colorado State University
  • Project CURE, a humanitarian partner providing medical supplies around the globe

Despite this busy schedule, the delegates were able to enjoy our beautiful weather, some shopping, some local hospitality and homecooked meals, high tea at the Brown Palace, Mexican food — and tequila!
